Newsletter July 2018

For this newsletter we asked a few children to write a small story about what Nav-Jeevan means or meant for them.
Below follow some contributions.

Anil Yadav

My name is Anil Jadhav. I am seventeen years old. My school name is Dr. T.S. Wilkinson Memorial High School and Junior College.
When I came to school I was three years old. I came with my elder brother and sister. They have finished their education from this school. When I was two years old my mother died. I have four sisters and one brother. I am the youngest of them all. My three sisters left studies due to me because I was too small and I was not able to live without my mom.
They all cared for me. After my mother died my father became an alcoholic and after some time his health became poor. My sisters started to work in people's houses as maids.
When I was very young a person came and attacked the hut where I lived with my family. My father had made a temple in my home. He broke it too. We were in a very bad state. After that situation my eldest three sisters got married.
Initially I was a day scholar because my school had no hostel and we were in a temporary place. The hostel was constructed in 2005 and I began staying there. I liked it very much. I could have a bath daily. They loved me and played with me. I enjoyed my life very much. The people in school and hostel are like my family. They taught me the importance of my life. I never miss my family. I grew up very fast and my childhood has finished before I realized. I learned many things between these periods.
I love my school very much. They gave me the most important thing that is education. I started my journey from nursery and now I am in 11th class. I have learned a lot and will never forget this school.

Sagar Tandekar

Nav Jeevan School is my favorite school and I like all teachers and my principal.
And my ideal is my 10th class teacher Mr.Sanjay Sen.
And I will never forget Nav Jeevan School and all memories at Nav Jeevan School.
And I will always remember all my friends.
Now I study Arts in BA first year.
At Vasantarao Naik college at Birdi.
And I am working at a night job.

Isha Dhurve

My name is Isha Dhurve. I am 16 years old. I study in Dr.T.S.Wilkinson Memorial High School and Junior College.
I came here when I was 3-4 years old. I would like to thank Principal madam, Aneeta madam, Iris madam Annelies madam and Tom sir for putting me in this hostel. This school has guided throughout my life. This school has given me a big opportunity to prove myself and I will prove that I can do everything. The blessings I received will help me create my future.
I used to live in the village with my parents. My mother was a teacher and used to tutor nursery children. My father was a construction laborer. But he was an alcoholic and used to beat up my mother all the time. Ultimately it became too much for her and she took poison. I was just a year old. My mother's sister started taking care of my sister and me even though she too lived in abject poverty. When she heard about the school she immediately brought us here.
When I first came to the hostel I didn't know how to live a healthy life or how to read or write. I learned discipline, self-confidence, etc. This school has made me that much more capable and I can now set my goals in the future. I came here with my aunt only but this school has given me a whole family. I am lucky to have to this type of family. This school / hostel has lots of facilities which I enjoyed like good food, breakfast, lunch, hostel facility, bus facility etc. When I first came here I didn't have any clothes to wear so Aneeta Madam, Iris Madam and teaching staff provided me clothes.
Aneeta madam has done whatever we needed. They are like my mother. They are taking care of me since I was small. Annelies madam is also my mother. I am really very thankful to them and Tom sir also. Dhun madam is teaching me since I was in 4th standard. Principal Madam is someone who inspires me. This all had made me able that I can face all the challenges which came across me. I will never forget this all throughout my life.

I have an elder sister. She is in 11th standard. Before coming in this school, we studied in Marathi school. I was in nursery and my sister was in 1st standard. My aunt was earning money by doing work on construction sites. Her husband used to drink alcohol. So he never earned money. My aunt left him and the three of us came to live in Nagpur and we got admission with the help of Anita madam's friend because my aunt used to work in her home. My aunt was not able to pay the fees as she was alone. I was 3-4 years and my sister was 4-5 years old. As I was small .I didn't like to study so I always ran and I cry a lot for my aunt and for my sister.
Then after some years, I enjoyed learning and hence I stopped crying also. Annelies madam started coming every year to meet all the children. After that all children were started taking interest in studies. This school had given me a lot which I can't forgot throughout my life. This school has transformed my life and I am very happy that I have such a family and I love this school, volunteers, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, etc.
  Thank you

Yash Khobragade

I am Yash Khobragade. I am studying in this school since 7 years. I was 8 years old when I joined the school. I didn't have parents when I came to school. I am born in Bhandara. Aneeta mam and principal mam gave me love and affection like my parents. For me they are my mother as well as my father. They care for me and my sister. I have a younger sister Swati. She is 16 years old. We study in the same school. We both live in the hostel. Thank Aneeta mam for giving me such a new life and new start. I want to join the army and I hope you will help me in my study and my education or everything. When I want anything you give me all that things which we need. So we are very grateful to have your love. In my life there are lots of problems. You treat me like my mom. I never feel alone. You are like my parents. When I will become an army man all the credit go to you. When I'll get success I never forget this school and your love.
Thank you for your support so far and thank you for all the help you have given us. I also thank Dhun mam for teaching me so far. I love you my dear mom.
  Yash/Spidy.

Sunil Yadav

Hi aunty.
I am happy in my life. You support me and my brother and sister and made me a gentleman.
I work 4wheel car paint and repair. Thanks Nav-Jeevan for recovering my life. I have four sisters and one brother. I love them. Once I was poor but God never closes a door. One day Nav Jeevan Sanstha came and asked if I was interested in study. I was proud then. I studied 1 to 10th class and Nav Jeevan also supported me in Prakash Institute, There I studied two years and now I am here. Thank you for your support my lovely aunty.

Alka Barya

I'm really thankful to all Nav Jeevan staff who gave me lots of opportunities for growth. When I was in Nav Jeevan I really enjoyed everything. Whatever activities were done in Nav Jeevan I got participated in. Nav Jeevan's staff helping me so much in all activities such as study, sports, social camp, really it was inspiring for me. I think there is no organization that helps people on this level. In our family we are 5 members, mother, father and we three sisters. My elder sister got married and we (Vandana & Alka) are still studying. I'm in B. Commerce. 2nd year. When I left Nav Jeevan it was disappointing for me. That time I felt like I had lost everything which was mine. Now I am studying as well as working as a cashier in Nirmala's mart. Thanks for giving me directions for achieving such goals. Today my parents get proud whatever I do for them.
In future I really want to help all guys who helped me. Thank you for giving me this type of organization.

John Martin (Kuldeep)

My name is Kuldeep Martin and my father's name is RamBihari Martin. At present my father is a pastor at Bethel Church, Attara (Banda) in Uttar Pradesh, India. My mother is a homemaker. I have a brother, Deepak who studies and stays at Nav Jeevan Sanstha, Godhani, Nagpur and I have two sisters. We belong to a poor family.
I have done my schooling up to class 8 In Hindi medium from Banda. I have spent  five years at NJS. As such one can stay in the hostel only up to class 10 but Wilkinson Aunty was kind and allowed me to stay in the hostel so that I could complete my class 11 and 12 from Nagpur. Her gesture made me feel very good. This gave me a chance to serve NJS by tutoring Maths to  9th n 10th class students in the evening after my college.
After some days I got a call from my father asking me to return home as he was diagnosed with diabetes. I had to leave NJS and come back home. I miss NJS as I loved being with the students there. Everyone was nice. Annelies aunty was very nice. Whenever she would visit us she would take us out for picnics and movies.
I want to Thank Annelies aunty and Wilkinson aunty from the bottom of my heart. NJS is all because of them.
After returning back home (Banda) I didn't know what to study. Finally I decided to take admission in Banda Para Medical College to do Diploma in physiotherapy (DPT). But my father was in two minds as we had to pay fees of Rs.two lakhs but Jesus had grace upon us and we could manage. I will complete my DPT in 2018-2019. Later on I want to complete my graduation by doing BPT (Bachelor of physiotherapy) . I pray to Jesus to help me become a doctor (physiotherapist) so that I can support my family and help other poor children.

Reunion on Sunday October the 7th.

We like it to meet all old-students once again and see what they are doing now and where they did end up. That is why we organize a reunion on October the 7th.
We will also be in Nagpur then and hope everybody will come.

Big dormitory for the boys and solar-energy

The construction of the big dormitory for the boys is after a lot of misfortune finally left behind. Because there were cracks in the pillars they had to be strengthened again. The subsidy for the solar panels on the roof of the dormitory has been applied for some time ago and is expected to be granted this month. The municipality Den Bosch has donated an amount for those solar panels.

Calder Holding

The Calder Holding has doubled every euro that her staff donates since the start in 2003 and has also pledged to do so for the coming years. We are very happy with this loyal donor.

Advocacy Foundation for the (very) young child

Just like the previous years, in 2018 we received 15.000 euros from the Advocacy Foundation for the (very) young child, for food, uniforms and school supplies.

ITEC

The Nav-Jeevan foundation has got a new company as sponsor last month: ITEC is a brand independent supplier of document solutions such as printers and copiers.
They donate a certain amount of each order to charity for a period. The amounts per donation are fixed but the customer can choose which charity they want to support. In addition to the Nav-Jeevan Foundation, they can also opt for the Make a Wish foundation.
ITEC is proud to be able to contribute in this way and we are very happy with it.

Action

Organize a special action and help the street children of Nav Jeevan to shelter and education:

  • approach the company where you work and ask them to participate in one way or another
  • see if the school of your children wants to organize something, such as a sponsor run
  • organize a sporting event
  • celebrate your anniversary or birthday in a special way
  • ask your friends to make a donation to Nav-Jeevan

On behalf of the Nav-Jeevan children and staff we thank you very much for your donations and hope you will also support us in future.

Sincerely,
Annelies van de Ven
